...and lies and videotape...

I have realized the futility of explaining fairness, decency, honour, the Westminster Parliamentary system, the constitution, history, and a whole lot more.

Just remember Goebbels' meme about repeating a lie often enough.

from here, by way of Garth Turner's.

Plenty of lies there, but that's not to say the 3 stooges are saints. None of these guys has a clue. Stimulus, bailouts, even the governor general is way off base with the comments in the throne speech. I'm not for any of that and I don't want to pay for it.

Yup the infamous nazi comparison. I think this blog has finally jumped the shark.

When socialists/commies/Marxists run out of legitimate criticism, they can always lay down the "Nazi" label on governments that don't bend over backwards to give away my tax money to people who didn't earn it.

/see, I can do it too.

Conservatives who run up deficits when they promise not too are WORSE than liberals who make no such promises in the first place.

Both Canada and the US need TRUE fiscal conservatives, not phony fakes ones who lie. From ANY party.

Balanced budgets are harsh medicine, they don't go down well, but the alternative is death.

Those who are making connections to the Nazis do so on their own. Goebbels was a Nazi, but my reference was to lies, which told often enough, become the "truth". My reference was to propaganda, and Goebbels was the benchmark for it.

ted - can you not come up with anything better than an obscure, meaningless comment like "jump the shark"? WTF does that mean, anyhow? And how does an inanimate entity such as a blog do something physical - like jump? Can't you come up with your own platitudes?

Art - what is with the repeated socialist/commie/Marxist references? Canada is a country in which the preponderance of people have "socialist" leanings - you know, things like the greater good, helping those who are in need of help, etc. Those are very much hallmarks of decency, practiced by most religions. Are you such a close-minded, hard-hearted person? Really? Who are the Marxists and "commies" that you keep referring to?

I'll add one to back Solip. I, for one, would much rather have some sort of accountability (government regulations) when it comes to lending standards than what is "perceived" to be a capitalistic free market economy with lack of accountability. At least tell it like it is instead of offering up masked "socialist" subsidization.

"Jump the shark" refers to the Happy Days in the latter seasons, the writers were so desperate for storylines they had the Fonz jump a shark. It was one of the worst shows in tv history and the show knew they were good as done by that point. That's what ted was talking about.

I guess this is the worst blog in blogging history then...

Sigh.

not quite. Good show lost the magic formula that made it great.

Good blog that was originally funny but getting predictable.

Love the blog and I think you keep it fairly eclectic...

I remember that "Happy Days" episode...too cheesy and I loved Happy Days back them...but, "The Fonz" at Malibu on the beach in a leather jacket...sad!

"The Fonz" as a concept was ALWAYS sad.

Here is a blast from the past:

The GST was created by the Conservatives to pay off the deficit the Liberals created.

Anonymous said...

The GST was unpopular and the Liberals ran their election platform on it and promised to get rid of it if they were elected.

Obviously they lied!

Yes, by the time you hit middle age you will realize that a lot of politicians make promises that they don't keep.

That was 15 years ago Coco, and was a different bunch of Liberals than there are now. Are you saying that it is ok for the Conservatives to lie because of that history?

The Conservatives seem to be a very holy bunch of Christians, with their "God Bless Canada", anti-abortion stance, and a bunch of other stuff. I am not a Christian, but I don't lie, cheat, or steal. I am not a Christian, but have read the Bible, and know that contained therein is ssomething like "thou shalt not bear false witness". Some Christians...

I am well into middle age, and have realized that most people lie - out of fear, avarice, or whatever. I can name a lot of politicians that do not lie; Ed Broadbent, Preston Manning, Alexa McDonough, Bill Blaikie, Joe Clark, John McCallum (and many more). I have covered all three major parties there, as I am not partisan.

With <$40 oil Canada is up a recessionary s**t creek and we need a deficit paddle.

I am no fan of the liberals but in all fairness I remember them saying they will get rid of the GST to replace it with a more efficient sales tax. They did not say they would abolish the gst out right.

Mulroney sold Canada's soul! I can't think of a bigger arrogant lyin' cheat other than maybe Chretien :-) Both major parties covered there....

I have to ask, pbell; Have you ever been at "The Bav"? Do you know anyone named Susan from Alabama? Did she ever have a gold Beetle with a sunroof?

Just wondering.

Anonymous said...

solip. You've lost me there. Don't know what "The Bav" is or a Susan from Alabama.

Ha! I never thought that it was Pat Bell, and my old friend was not either.

Being that you are a Padraig, you are derived from the auld sod, and are a brethren in arms (or something...). "Who are ye for?" (laugh)
