discounting the discounters

I came across this in my travels of yesterday.

Lloyd advertising "guranteed" offer on your house. Makes me wonder.

Who is Lloyd? What kind of offer might you get? Maybe a pound of weed as a down payment, and the balance in $20 bills? Would Lloyd write up the offer of purchase and sale (might be an idea to have a Grade 6 teacher look over the offer before taking it to your lawyer)? How would Lloyd "gurantee" the offer?

Full service realtors are not too fond of the 1% realtors and other discount services, how do the One Percenters feel about these types of "agents"?

As this market follows it's natural course (down), will anyone be calling Lloyd?

Looks good though, doesn't it? Lloyd has pretty low overhead - $2.91 for a permanent marker, a couple of bucks for the placard, and $30/month for the untraceable cell phone.

Hey, yesterday's post elicited some interest. There was the suggestion of an offer for $100 - $150, and bc_cele quickly brought that up to $70k (though neither of those were "guranteed").

Maybe I'll give Lloyd a call.

I really thought that 150.00 bucks for a possibly used weather proof porta-potty was an excellent deal..even though there is no room for expansion. ixnay the tree and add on a deck was not going to happen.. but maybe LLoyd can give me a better deal.. I might give him a call...

babybull40,
I might hire Lloyd as my buyer agent to write the offer for Solipsist's shitty house. I got plenty of money to outbid BC-le's 70k bid.

babybull - it's not a porta-potty, it's a cute little charmer with the potential for duplexing, or condo-conversion.

And there is more interest, and it looks like there might be a bidding war.

Face it - you are priced out of Vancouver forever.

I suppose I am and that is why I will never move there.. unless I can win the big bucks in the lottery and outbbid all of you...lol

Over @RET, Amelia posted a link - http://tinyurl.com/v3w68 - LOL. Another reader mentioned lots of absentee house owners in Squamish. There are lots of rental properties in Greater Vancouver too sitting vacant, and yet landlords boasted @RET increases of 20% upward when old tenants move out.
HTM before he was banned @RET warned not to trust CPI and data published, he's not alone. With so many foreign and domestic speculators / flippers, Lloyd is in great demand.

"$30/month for the untraceable cell phone"

That is priceless! hahaha. Things are just getting nuttier & nuttier in this market.

I'm not looking to buy. A wise friend a generation above me says the market will go on and may turn in 2007 or 2008. He says too many people no longer trust the central banks and baby boomers / retirees cannot live on low interest of their savings. The speculation here is not only fan from locals but also foreigners who want to park their excess cash in a safe country. How many powerful and influential foreigners owns properties here ? ... Oprah Winfield, Thai princess, presidents ex-presidents of Southeast Asian countries ....

.. and their numerous relatives.. brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, inlaws.

There are many smart thinking hats @VHB. But one has to concede that fundamentals are no match to "deep pockets" and powerful groups.

Thanks for the link antz. I rarely go to RET anymore. I might just have to lift that gem, and post it here. I can't understand why they even bothered to take photo's.

I agree that HTM had some clear insights hiding behind his "guffaws", and promises to not wet his bed.

Do you really think that "big money" is buying the crack shacks and such though? I would think that they are into higher-end stuff, or parcels of land.

What do I know though? I only have $426.00 in the bank.

at least the smart acquilini money bought cheap before downtown prices go crazy.

Revealing my ignorance - who/what is acquilini money?

The fundamentals prevailed in 1981-83, and they will prevail again. Just what makes you think the "deep pockets" want to pay ridiculous prices for a crapbox in Newton? Is that some sort of status symbol?

This is a metropolis of 2 million people, not Saltspring.

Hell, I can guarantee an offer of $1 on any home in the lower mainland (that isn't a leaky condo with a $80k+ assessment). $1, take it or leave it, but I'm guaranteeing that I will make that offer and that I have the cash to back it up (digs around wallet for a Loonie).
